The Horse’s Voice: Ashley’s Journey from Bodywork to Deep Connection
Must Love Horses Interviews Ashley Currie
For some people, working with horses is about training or technique. For Ashley, it’s something deeper—something instinctual, spiritual, and profoundly scientific. Through her multifaceted practice in equine massage, kinesiology taping, craniosacral therapy, and holistic nutrition, she’s made it her mission to help horses feel heard, seen, and healed—inside and out. In this conversation, Ashley reflects on her journey, the moments that changed her, and the powerful connections she forges with horses every day.
"When it comes to horses, there are two types of humans. One feels small around them. The other feels bigger. Horses can tell the difference."
1. What about horses captured your heart and made you fall in love with them?
I wish I could say it was any one thing. I could point to countless experiences throughout my life that changed me for the better. I think when it comes to horses there are two types of humans. One type of human feels small around horses. It makes that human nervous, scared, and often times I find those are the humans who treat horses poorly. The other type feel bigger then they are when they are around horses. You reach out beyond the edges of your body, you expand. These are people who learn how to listen with their whole body. Horses can tell the difference.
2. In your experience, what’s the most fulfilling moment or accomplishment you’ve had while working with horses?
I find that I often become a horse's voice when I work with them. I speak the language in a different way then many people, because I get to blend science and instinct. I get to uncover things before it's the body that is doing the talking in a really beautiful, thorough way. And we never know the whole story, horses are all about getting comfortable with not knowing. But I get to fish out one more piece of the puzzle, and that is really awesome.
3. For someone just starting their journey with horses, what’s the first piece of advice you would give them to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience?
4. If you could sit down for a conversation with any horseman or horsewoman—past or present—who would it be and why?
Honestly, I would love to talk to that first super brave teenager who got dared by a friend (I like to imagine) to jump on that crazy animal and see what happens. How did they feel? Could they even grasp that what they were doing was going to change the human race forever? It is really incredible that whoever that person was in one foolhardy instant directed humanity so completely. I mean, that's amazing.
Thank you, Ashley!
